Michael Gene Harris
Mike Harris was eight years old when his family relocated
from McKinney, Texas to Central California - the community
he still calls home and has proudly served as a law enforcement
officer since 1973. Mike started his career with the Madera
County Sheriff Department's Reserve Force. In 1987 he
moved to the Fresno Police Department where he continues
to work today.
As a Deputy Sheriff Mike served as a first line supervisor,
SWAT, Emergency Search and Rescue Scuba Diver, Narcotic
Investigator, Detective, Crime Prevention Officer, and
Explorer Scout Advisor. These experiences gave Mike a
well-rounded education about the needs of a rural county
Sheriff's Department and what is necessary to keep order
in place.
During Mike's tenure with the Fresno Police Department
he furthered his law enforcement education by learning
how to meet the complex needs of a large urban environment.
As a patrol officer, Mike discovered the unique challenges
of solving day-to-day calls for service in a timely and
resourceful manner.
Mike was soon promoted to Detective. Whether working
on a vehicle burglary or a multiple victim homicide, Mike's
primary directive is to serve the laws of the state and
country, while never forgetting that it is the victim
that matters.
Brotherhood of the Badge came to life as a way to help
American troops by helping the civilian forces they are
tasked to train. It is difficult to train a fledgling
force in any capacity if the necessary equipment is not
available. Brotherhood of the Badge helps to solve this
problem by collecting surplus policing tools and sending
the equipment to battlefronts. This serves to save
lives and bolster the confidence of those who step up
to protect their communities.
Mike wishes to thank the Brotherhood of the Badge Board
of Directors for their assistance, confidence and patience
in his leadership, and most importantly for their love
of their country. He would like to remind us all, if you
happen across a member of the US Military, take the time
to thank them for their service. May God bless America.

Ken W. Shockley
Many of Ken Shockley's fondest childhood memories are of
his Grandfather's Southern California dairy. It was there
that Ken acquired the values that continue to guide his life
today. A strong work ethic, dedication to his community, and
love of country are the principals Ken learned while working
long hours along side his grandfather. He hopes to pass those
same values to his teenage son.
Inspired by two generations of family members who have served
in the armed forces during times of war, Ken's started his
professional career in the US Army. He proudly served in the
5th Infantry Division, 19th Special Forces, and 40th Infantry
Division. But Ken's desire to serve is also reflected by his
distinguished civilian career. In 1994 Ken joined the Fresno
Police Department. He spent six years helping to make Fresno's
streets safe, but ultimately left the force in order to further
his education.
After earning a degree in Speech Communications from the
University of Utah, Ken went on to become a television news
producer. Currently Ken combines his journalistic experience
with his love of public service as the Public Information
Officer for the Fresno Fire Department.
Ken knows no greater reward than to be a part of team that
serves to benefit the community. When invited by Mike Harris
to serve on the board of Brotherhood of the Badge, Ken's answer
was an immediate yes. He was impressed with Brotherhood of
the Badge's noble mission to help stand-up Iraqi public safety
officers so that US troops can stand-down. Ken is proud to
assist an organization with no political agenda, that only
desires to aid US military troops by stabilizing Iraq's public
safety.
Ken now lives in Fresno, California with his son Arik and
wife Kathleen.

Lindsay Hughes
Lindsay is currently a Community Service Officer
at the Fresno Police Department with 12 years of experience.
She is assigned as the Program Coordinator for the Special
Projects Unit.
She serves on board of the Brotherhood of the
Badge as the Treasurer. At the Fresno Police Department, she
is surrounded by heroes in the form of police officers and
she is amazed on a daily basis by their incredible bravery
as they answer this noble calling. Some of these officers
have been deployed and are courageously serving in the military
in Iraq and Afghanistan. To Lindsay, their heroism is multiplied
exponentially as she tries, but cannot imagine what it must
be like for them to go to war so very from their homes and
families. They nobly see and believe in the reason that they
are there fighting for our beloved, and free, America.
One day, Mike Harris showed Lindsay photographs
of one such deployed officer by the name of Ken Carlson. Ken
was giving tactical training to Iraqi police officers, who
were expected to perform police duties with no protective
gear whatsoever. They looked so willing and so vulnerable.
Mike explained his brilliant idea to collect perfectly functional
expired police gear and equipment to equip the fledgling Iraqi
police force, and thus enabling our military men and women
to come home sooner!
Another reason that compels Lindsay to support
our military is honor for her father, Captain Warren J. Hughes,
who served in the Army's 17th Infantry, 7th Division, in the
Pacific Theater, throughout W.W.II. During his service, he
was awarded the Silver Star, the Bronze Star (twice), and
the Purple Heart (twice). He started a diary from the day
his company sailed out of San Francisco Bay to the Aleutian
Islands. He wrote about his experience fighting the enemy
on those Godforsaken islands.
Lindsay belies her father was the bravest man
that has ever lived. She feels that this helped her to appreciate
the fact that every man and woman in the United States military
is an incredible hero for serving our country. She prays everyday
for their sustained safety, sanity, and success.
